Chief Master Scott Karpiuk holds an 8th Degree Black Belt through the American Taekwondo Association — a rank earned in front of ATA Grand Masters at the 2024 World Championships in Phoenix, Arizona. He is the 2025 ATA World Champion, winning gold in all 4 events he qualified for out of 1,600 competitors. He began his martial arts journey at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri in 1984, received his instructorship in 1987 at the first-ever Instructor's Camp in South Korea, and has been teaching in Surrey, BC since 1991. He was also the first-ever Master from Canada when he received his Mastership Title in 2005 from Grand Master Soon Ho Lee at the World Championships in Little Rock, Arkansas — witnessed by over 10,000 spectators. His students have gone on to open academies throughout the Lower Mainland, and many have earned their 4th through 7th Degree Black Belts under his guidance.

"After about 16 months we see how much Ludovic, age 12, has improved. Not only his moves (kicks are higher for example) but also and most of all, his attitude. He has more self-confidence. Because of this confidence he has less anxiety at school and is getting more and more independent and responsible in his home duties."

"I came here as a tiny tiger, and from there to my third degree in black belt I trained with Master Karpiuk. I learned a lot from this experience and I recommend every child to learn and be a part of this academy. I have learned many life lessons, and added to my confidence here. So so thankful for this school and all of the staff that taught me for years."

"As a martial arts practitioner in Shotokan karate for many years, I joined the ATA Black Belt Academy with my 3 children to learn the art of Tae Kwon Do. It has been an awesome experience to be back in the dojo with great instructors and for my children, life skills and confidence that will serve them forever. Highly recommend Black Belt Academy."
